Elections will be held on given date: Nidhi

Pokhara, April 19

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi has clarified that local level elections will be held on the slated date.

Speaking at a western regional security symposium organised here today, the DPM, however, said the government was ready to conduct the poll in two phases if that ensured participation of the agitating Madhes-based parties.

“The polls can be held in two phases if that is what it takes to bring the Madhes-based parties on board the election process. Otherwise, let me make it clear that the poll will happen at one go on the slated date of May 14,” said Nidhi, who also informed that the government had made all security arrangements for the polls.

“As the security arrangements have been made, the poll will happen in a peaceful environment where voters can get to exercise their franchise without any fear,” he said, pledging to leave no stone unturned to provide security for the polls.

On the occasion, Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi told security chiefs of the region and the districts to ensure effective security arrangement during polls.

The chiefs of all three security bodies under the Home Ministry, their regional and zonal chiefs, chief district officers of all sixteen districts of the region, among others, participated in the symposium.
