Damauli, September 15

A survey of elephantiasis is currently being carried out in schools of four districts, namely, Tanahun, Gorkha, Syangja and Palpa.

According to Raju Khanal, a councillor of the survey team, work related to the survey is on in Tanahun’s Chandrawati Secondary School, Sundar Primary School, Jana Kalyan Primary School, Mahadev Primary School, Siddhi Lower Secondary School, among other schools now.

“As we have to cover many schools, as many as 22 each in Tanahun and Syangja, 19 in Gorkha, and 17 in Palpa, we started our work from September 5 from Damauli,” said Khanal.

Khanal added that blood samples are being collected from first and second graders.

Epidemiology and Disease Control Department, acting on the July 12 letter of Health Department, School Health Nutrition and Property Management Department of Bhaktapur, had assigned a team of 10 health workers for the survey that is supposed to be complete in a week’s time from now.
