Embarrassment keeps women from seeking uterine prolapse treatment
Khotang, October 4
As many as 186 women are suffering from uterine prolapse in four wards in Khotang, according to data published by Centre for Agro-ecology and Development, a human rights organisation.
Cases of uterine prolapse is high among women in four wards of Diprung Rural Municipality, Aiselukharka Rural Municipality and Kepilasagadhi Rural Municipality.
As per the centre, women suffering from uterus prolapse hesitate to share the problem and feel embarrassed. “Many women are too shy to talk about it and think the disease has no treatment,” Shrestha said.
Women with uterine prolapse were identified after interaction with them and symptoms seen during their health check-up. It is estimated that around 17 per cent women in the district suffer from uterine prolapse. The centre has been raising awareness of uterine prolapse since 2015. Since it started its work, ring pessary was kept in 12 women and 20 women were sent to Kathmandu and Banepa for treatment.
Aruna Chuadhary of the centre said few victims battling the problem had started sharing their problem. Some positive impacts of the programmes launched by the centre have encouraged more women to go for regular check-up.
