KATHMANDU, JANUARY 5

Environmental and sanitation activist, Dr. Roshanraj Shrestha, has been honored with the esteemed 'Bill Gates Senior Award 2023.'

During a special program held in the United States, Bill Gates, the founder of the foundation, publicly acclaimed Shrestha as the standout individual among the top 25 recognized for their exceptional contributions. This recognition was extended to Shrestha from a pool of over 3,000 employees worldwide at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The award carries a substantial prize of one hundred thousand dollars (approximately Rs 13.2 million), which was virtually presented to Dr. Shrestha due to his inability to attend the program in person.

With over 35 years of experience in environmental, sanitation, and public health, Dr. Shrestha established the Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) in 1990, serving as the Executive Director. Since 2005, he has worked in various countries under the United Nations, and since 2012, he has been the Deputy Director at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dr. Roshanraj Shrestha is also recognized for his advisory role in the Nepali social organization in US, Nepal Rising, providing guidance.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, founded by the philanthropist Bill Gates, is renowned globally for its humanitarian work.
