Ethnic groups in east warn of declaring Limbuwan state
BIRATNAGAR: Around half-a-dozen organisations working on establishing a separate state in the Eastern Region have threatened to formally declare a Limbuwan state on May 30, 2010 if the new constitution was not drafted within the stipulated time.
Urging the government to implement the five-point agreement reached with them earlier, the activists have warned to declare a state on their own if the new constitution did not make provisions for the establishment of a Limbuwan state.
Federal Limbuwan State Council (FLSC), FLSC-Revolutionary, Indigenous Janajatis, Dalit Republican Forum and local intellectuals have passed a Biratnagar declaration after a deliberation on Limbuwan Unity.
Voicing demands for a separate state and expressing commitment to unity, they have also warned of opting for a people’s belligerency for obtaining rights. Organising a press meet to publicise the points of declaration, they appealed to residents of the so-called Limbuwan area to be prepared for a decisive struggle if need be.
Padam Adhikari, secretary general, FLSC, said they would prepare for the movement until the new constitution is drafted. In case the agreements were not implemented, an armed struggle would be waged.
