EU extends support of Rs 24.2m to floods and landslides victims

KATHMANDU: The European Union has decided to extend support of Rs 24.2 million to the floods and landslides victims across the Nation on Friday.

In a statement today, the diplomatic mission said the grant was extended in humanitarian aid funding to assist the most-affected families in various districts across the country.

A total of 35,000 people will directly benefit from the aid, it said in the statement.

"The EU funding supports the International Federation of the Red Cross, in collaboration with the Nepal Red Cross Society, in delivering much-needed assistance through the provision of food, safe drinking water, sanitation items, and emergency shelter kits which include tarpaulins, blankets, kitchen utensils, and clothing supplies," reads the statement.

The Kathmandu-based diplomatic mission further said that the aid was extended to minisise the risk of water-borne disease in the aftermath of the floods, hygiene promotion activities are being provided to the targeted communities.

It further said cash grants would be distributed once local markets resume operations in the disaster hit areas, it said in the statement.
