EU team congratulates govt for holding polls peacefully

Kathmandu, December 8

A delegation led by a member of European Parliament Neena Gill called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and congratulated the government, the Election Commission and other stakeholders for holding the provincial and parliamentary elections in a peaceful manner.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation also expressed happiness to have seen Nepal’s continued progress in institutionalising the democratic gains made over the years.

“The prime minister said that holding all elections as stipulated in the constitution was the topmost priority of the present government. He stated that the successful holding of elections at local, provincial and federal levels had given a new direction to the country,” read the release.

The EU delegation members present in the meeting with the prime minister included members of European Parliament Thomas Mann, Thomas Zdechovsky, Bernard Monot and EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronica Cody, among others.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by the member of European Parliament  Zeljana Zovko, chief observer of the European Union’s Election Observation Mission to Nepal called on President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today.

According to a press release issued by the MoFA , the delegation congratulated the president and through her, the Government of Nepal and Nepali people on successful holding of federal and provincial elections.

“The president stated that the elections were a crucial step in the implementation of the constitution and that this would lead the country towards a more focused pursuit of economic development. She also appreciated the EU’s support and cooperation extended to Nepal,” MoFA said in its release.
