KATHMANDU, APRIL 15

The Government of Nepal, following the President's announcement, has honoured mountaineer Shiva Bahadur Sapkota with the Sagarmatha Medal.

Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Maheshwor Neupane handed over the medal and certificate to Sapkota amid a ceremony in the capital, today.

Sapkota who hails from Sunapati in Ramechhap district had climbed the world's highest peak in 2013.

He is the executive board member of Nepal Mountaineering Association and General Secretary at the Everest Summiteers Association.

Sapkota, who aims to complete the ascent of the Seven Summits, has already climbed Mt Kosciuszko, the highest peak of Australia in 2016.

He is also involved in different social development activities.

On receiving the honour, Sapkota thanked the government and President Bidya Devi Bhandari for considering his name for the prestigious award.

"This award has inspired me to perform my best in the coming days," he reacted.
