Ex-PM Khanal calls for release of Nepali national arrested in India

ILAM: CPN-UML senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has demanded immediate release of a Nepali youth, who has been arrested in India recently.

27-year-old Udayahang Fago, a resident of Suryodaya Municipality-10 in Ilam district, has been arrested arrested in Siliguri in the Indian state of West Bengal where he had gone for medical treatment of his mother at a local family clinic.

The UML leader called Nepali Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay over the telephone on Friday and urged him to take the initiative to have Fago released, as he was innocent, according to Khanal's personal secretary Krishna Bhattarai.

Ambassador Upadhyay, in response, said that talks were being held with the Indian central government and concerned authorities in that regard.

Leader Khanal has also requested to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to talk to the concerned Indian agency to have Fago released.
