Excavation of aggregates rampant

Rampant excavation of sand and boulders from Gaderi Khola has put Galeni Village of Belka Municipality at a high risk flooding in Udayapur.

The river has changed its course and has entered the village after as illegal excavation of aggregates continues unabated.

A local, Jit Bahadur Karki, said hundreds bighas of land was eroded after the river began to enter human settlements. Locals said illegal smuggling of sand and boulders had increased after the local levels were permitted to excavate aggregates from the river a month ago.

A local, Sabur Chaudhary, said sand, boulders among other materials are being excavated from Gederi Khola on a daily basis.
