Explosion occurs near Office of Chief Returning Officer in Pokhara

KATHMANDU: An explosion occurred in an under-construction tourist bus park near the Office of the Chief Returning Officer, in Pokhara, Kaski district, today morning.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dan Bahadur Karki, the explosion occurred at the bus park near Rastra Bank Chok, at 10:55 am today. No casualties or damages to properties have been reported. Police are yet to collect a clue on what kind of improvised explosive device (IED) was used.

The explosion took place as Bidya Bhattarai, a House of Representatives (HoR) candidate of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) from Kaski  Constituency-2 entered the Office of the Chief Returning Officer to file her nomination for the upcoming by-elections.

Meanwhile, security personnel have undertaken an investigation into the explosion.

Main opposition Nepali Congress has decided to field Khem Raj Paudel from Kaski Constituency-2.

The by-elections will be held on November 30 for 52 vacant posts of people’s representatives, one member of the House of Representatives, three Provincial Assembly members and 48 chiefs, deputy chiefs and ward chairs of local levels.
