Extremism in any form will not be tolerated: Minister

Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa today said the government would act tough against any kind of extremism.

Speaking at a joint press meet organised by Press Chautari and Press Centre, Chitwan, in Bharatpur Airport, Thapa referring to recent activities of Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party said the government was ready to address political issues but would not tolerate any kind of extremism.

“The home ministry is responsible for maintaining peace and order,” he said, adding the ministry was committed to controlling criminal activities and providing security to the people.

The home minister further said Chand-led party intimidating newly elected local level representatives to resign from their posts was an apolitical activity.

“The government will control activities that disturb peace and harmony,” he said, adding, “The activities that disturb peace and harmony and lead the country towards anarchy will not be acceptable to the government.”

On different note, Minister Thapa said unification between the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre would announced by the second week of April. “The unification of the two parties will be an inspiration to all progressive forces around the world,” he said.
