Face music if no constituent assembly, Maoists tell alliance
Pyuthan, April 26:
Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) leader and deputy commander Prabhakar today warned the seven-party alliance that it would have to face the consequences if it failed to announce unconditionally election to a constituent assembly. He claimed the achievement of this pro-democracy movement was relatively less than that of the movement of 1990. He also said that the seven-party alliance had betrayed the people and the Maoists.
Speaking at a press conference in Pyuthan district’s Bagdula today, Prabhakar said the political parties fell for the carrot of reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives, which was actually the last card of the King. The programme venue is a 30-minute walk from district headquarter Khalanga.
Pointing to the leaders, he alleged that they feared meeting the fate of Madan Bhandari and so had bowed to pressure from the King and foreign powers. “Even so, we have withdrawn the blockade at Koirala’s request until the House session begins,” Prabhakar said, adding protest programmes would continue.
The Maoist commandr said that the parliamentary parties would be the rebel’s first target if they failed to announce unconditionally the constituent assembly in the House session on April 28. The 12-point understanding was made at the initiative of the Maoists, he said. He vented his ire at the political parties, saying that they did not give due recognition to the role of the Maoists in the movement. Prabhakar said that a republican front would be formed by all the pro-republican forces in the political parties.
On the occasion, another Maoist central leader Hemant Prakash Oli (Sudarshan) said the Maoists’ gun bolstered the SPA when the King had caged the alliance after his takeover on February 1.
Meanwhile, Maoist central leader Matrika Prasad Yadav, through a press release today, urged the people to continue staging demonstrations until the election to a constituent assembly is announced.
