Factual reporting not barred, says govt

Western regional administrator, Revati Raj Kafle, today said the government has not restricted journalists and media houses from disseminating correct and factual news.

Speaking at an interaction on ‘Information dissemination in the wake of Royal Proclamation and State of Emergency’, organised by the Mechi-Mahakali Media Society, here today, he however said FM radios have no rights to broadcast news.

He claimed that news broadcast on FM radios was against the law. FM radios had been broadcasting news bulletin until before the February 1 royal move.

Urging journalists to report news for the good of the country and the people, he asked them not to cover news that encourage terrorist activities.

Kaski Chief Distrcit Officer Krishna Prasad Lamsal said journalists should not go against the proclamation of the head of the state.

Central vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists’ said that a single policy should be applied to all the media in the country.
