RAUTAHAT: Illegal herbal medicine producers have been active in different Village Development Committees of Rautahat district.

A team led by drug inspector Bhagya Narayan Singh dispatched from Medicine Management Office Birgunj raided Herbal Medicine Parasitical in Pacharukhi VDC as it had been producing medicines without license.

Four different medicines, Herbal Malt, Hepaton, Herbo Join and Poly herb, were seized and handed to the district administration office.

Singh said the medicines were made without the permission of medicine management department. Labels and covers were fake. "Batch numbers, manufacturer and expiry dates of the confiscated medicines were not clearly mentioned and the company was evading tax," he added.

Singh revealed that Baban Mishra and Nabin Mishra of Pacharukhi VDC were active in producing such medicines. "When our team reached the village, the duo had already run away," he said.

Medicine inspector Singh said they had left letters at their houses notifying them to show up at the District Administration office within a month. A section of customers have been cheated because of the consumption of the fake medicines bought in cheap prices.

Singh said, "Inspection of companies producing fake medicines has begun and their names will be made public."

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Dr Kamaleshwor Kumar Sinha said the fake medicine production companies would be shut down while their proprietors would be brought to book.
