Families of war victims to get relief

The Relief and Rehabilitation Unit under the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction has released Rs 53 million as grant to be distributed among families that lost their members during the decade-long insurgency in the country, in Khotang.

According to the Local Peace Committee, Rs 5 lakh each will be distributed to the families of 125 persons who lost their lives during the insurgency. Similarly, the families of 22 Nepal Police Personnel, 11 Nepali Army personnel and six Armed Police Force personnel will be provided with Rs 1.5 lakh each, said the Peace Committee Office Secretary Dinesh Ghimire.

According to officials at the local peace committee, the families whose members were killed during the insurgency were provided Rs 5 lakh each in relief, earlier. Likewise, the families of security personnel who were killed during the armed conflict were provided with Rs 8.5 lakh each.

According to Ghimire, they will start distributing Rs 5 lakh to the families of commoners while Rs 1.5 lakh will be given to the families of security personnel from Tuesday. “One million rupees will be distributed to each of the families of security personnel and the general public killed during the insurgency period,” said Ghimire.

Similarly, the families of three persons who had disappeared will be provided Rs 5 lakh each. These families were provided Rs 5 lakh, earlier.

According to the peace committee, Rs 15.5 million for the families of 239 displaced persons, Rs 4.4 lakh for eight families with disabilities and Rs 1.4 lakh for orphaned children have been allocated in the district.
