Far-west yet to get planning commission

Dhangadi, November 28

The government in the Far-west Province has not yet formed its planning commission, a mechanism envisioned by the constitution to formulate plans at the province-level.

Nepali Congress Provincial Assembly member Bharat Bahadur Khadka rued the government’s apathy to the need to form constitutional bodies.

“We have time and again asked the government to set up the required statutory bodies such as Province Planning Commission and Public Service Commission, but to no avail,” he said.

Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers Principal Secretary Narayan Prasad Bidari said formation of the commission was a political decision and clarified that the government was preparing

to form the commission very soon.

“Actually, the question of whether or not setting up such a committee will make a difference in implementation of plans and policies of this fiscal remains unanswered. Anyway, the government is preparing to form long-term policies,” he said.
