Fare row halts traffic in Begnas, locals hit hard
Lekhnath, October 18:
Vehicular movement on Begnas-Bhorletar road in Kaski district, which was halted
over bus fare, has still remained obstructed.
Hundreds of thousand of locals have been affected due to the disruption of transport services. The consumers have formed an 11-member committee to force the transport entrepreneurs reduce the fares.
The committee has said it will urge the transport management office, the district administration office and the ministry of transport management to review transport fare.
“Traffic will not resume until the bus fare is reviewed,” said Shiv Lal Subedi, a member of the committee. The consumers have been demanding that the existing fare of Rs 45 per person from Begnas to Talbesi be reduced to Rs 30.
Bus entrepreneurs say the fare can’t be reduced for now. Rabindra Mohan Shrestha, chairman of Begnas Bus Entrepreneurs’ Committee, said the problem surfaced due to the ill mentality of a handful of people of the Begnas locality.
He claimed that the bus fare was fixed in line with an all-party decision of July 26.
