Farmers stage Chakkajam

Rautahat, September 3

Local farmers obstructed vehicular movement for an hour along the Gaur-Chandrapur road in Chandranagahapur Bazaar, Rautahat, today.

Farmers had to resort to protest after the authorities concerned failed to provide chemical fertilisers on time even after frequent requests.

Farmers said they were compelled to protest as it was the right time for them to use fertiliser  in the paddy fields to obtain maximum yield, but the authorities concerned paid no attention to this problem.

The farmers started facing problems after Agriculture Materials Company, Chandrapur, failed to provide fertiliser on time.  They protested from 11:00am to 12:00pm. They added that the local cooperatives charged them twice the price per sack. A local farmer Ganesh Timalsina at Chandrapur said AMC had around 1,800 sacks of chemical fertiliser in stock.

Meanwhile, Manager Sagun Tiwari at Agriculture Materials Company Chandrapur sub-branch said that the crisis of chemical fertiliser had hit local farmers due to strong security placed at the border points, which had obstructed smooth supply of fertiliser from India. “The problem occurred also because of sudden increase in demand,” she added. Tiwari further said that the problem would be resolved within 15 days.
