Farmers to get pension: Khanal

Minister of Agriculture, and Livestock Development Chakrapani Khanal today said that the government would arrange pension for farmers soon.

Inaugurating the 26th Annual General Assembly of Central Dairy Cooperative in Damauli, Minister Khanal said the government was working to arrange pension to lure youths into agriculture and make agriculture a respected occupation.

Khanal claimed that the government was thinking of arranging pension system as the country was agrarian and government employees and staffers of different professions had been receiving pension. He disclosed that the government was working to set up Kishan Bank to provide loan at low interest to farmers. He pledged to bring out policies and programmes meant for aiding farmers.

Minister Khanal said that the government would accord priority to collective farming. He claimed that farmers would not have to spill even a single litre of milk on the street for not getting fair price. He informed that his ministry would bring milk processing centres into operation in Kohalpur, Chitwan and Pokhara.
