File seized from police HQ

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Sunday seized a file from the Nepal Police Headquarters with an allegation of corruption while purchasing uniform jackets for the police personnel.

“After we got complaints over the suspected corruption in the purchase, we seized the file,” a highly placed source at the CIAA informed The Himalayan Times. “We have begun the investigation into it,” he added.

An deputy attorney at the CIAA Rajendra Shrestha, who is also an investigation officer, was deployed to seize the file.

There has been an allegation against the Nepal Police for amassing Rs 50 million during the purchase. The source at the CIAA added that the Police Headquarters purchased the jackets with $24 per piece while real price for a piece was $10 only at that time. “We have taken this issue seriously,” the source added.

In this connection, Nepal Police Spokesperson Binod Sigh said that the purchase could be an issue since nobody competed the tender at a time when it was called.
