Filing nomination begins for second phase of local elections

KATHMANDU: Filing of nominations began on Sunday for the second phase local level elections going to be held in Province 1, 5 and 7 slated on June 28.

The process of filing of candidacy has begun in 334 local levels of 35 districts, informed the Election Commission Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.

The 334 local levels include a metropolitan city, seven sub-metropolitan cities, 111 municipalities and 215 rural municipalities.

A total 6,432,765 voters are going to elect 15,038 representatives in the three provinces.

The Election Commission has finalised total 8,364 polling booths in 4,581 polling centres for the elections. Similarly, 66,900 civil servants would be deployed targeting the elections, according to the Commission.

The first phase of local level elections was held in Provinces 3, 4 and 6 on May 14 whereas elections would be held on September 18 in the only remaining Province 2.
