KATHMANDU, JULY 6

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has announced that he is stepping down from his post to ease the investigation around his alleged involvement in a recent controversy.

The outgoing minister apprised the House of Representatives of his decision this afternoon following the formation of an 11-member parliamentary committee to probe the recent allegations leveled against him.

Janardan Sharma has been accused of increasing the tax rate under 'outside influence'. He had apparently granted access to unauthorized personnel to the finance on the eve of announcing the budget for fiscal 2079/080.

The main opposition and many other had been demanding Sharma's resignation after the report of admission of unauthorized people in the ministry was released.
