Fire destroys forest

Charikot, March 27:

A week0long forest fire at the Salle Community Forest at the rural Gauri Shanker village development committee of Dolakha district has damaged herbs and timber worth million of rupees. The forest fire has destroyed the forest spread six kilometres over the ward numbers five to nine of the Gauri Shanker VDC, said local Karma Sherpa.

Herbal plants including Aunl Salla, Lauth Salla, Rhododendron, Khasru, Liso, Lokta, Jhus, Chiraito, Nigalo, Argeli have been destroyed. Some 50 people over the week had worked day in and day out to put off the fire, Sherpa added. Another fire in Baluwatar forest of Gauri Shankar-8 has also turned many species of herbal plants into ash. A two-storied house belonging to Sar Bahadur Gurung was also gutted.
