A fire broke out in the Dalit settlement in Rajdevi Municipality-5 of Rautahat in the early hours of Sunday, causing significant destruction to multiple houses and resulting in damages worth over Rs 10 lakhs.
The fire, which began around 1:30 am today in Patahi village, is believed to have originated from the house of Babulal Hajara. The flames quickly spread, completely engulfing eight homes, including those of Dipendra Paswan, Pradeep Paswan, and Ramnath Hajara.
Upon receiving news of the fire at around 2:00 am, assistance was provided by the Brahmpuri Police Post, Armed Police's BOP Belbichwa, and a fire engine from Gaur Municipality. Together with local residents, they were able to bring the blaze under control.
According to DSP Dipak Kumar Rai from the District Police Office in Rautahat, the fire was caused by embers in Babulal Hajara's house. It was confirmed that there was no electrical short circuit involved, contrary to earlier reports.
An investigation is ongoing, and authorities will release a detailed report following the completion of the on-site inquiry, police said.
