Property worth Rs 1m gutted as thatched roof houses catch fire in Udayapur

GAIGHAT: Property worth one million rupees were gutted in a fire that caught two houses with thatched roofs in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-7 of Udayapur district on Sunday night.

The fire that started from the kitchen of Hasta Bahadur Sarki destroyed his and another house belonging to Mandhoj Sarki in the neighbourhood, in Hadebas, at around 8:00 pm yesterday, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Nawaraj Bhatta at Udayapur District Police Office.

The food grains, clothes, utensils turned into ash after the two-storey houses were engulfed in flames, police said.

Police with the help of local residents brought the fire under control in time to prevent it from spreading further.

Meanwhile, the rural municipality has decided to provide two families displaced by the blaze, with relief items including food grains, clothes, utensils and Rs 2,200 to each family, rural municipality ward-7 Vice Chair Gunaraj Shrestha informed.
