First dengue case of the year found in Tanahun

TANAHUN: The first case of deadly communicable dengue disease for this year has been found in Tanahun district.

Dengue Fever  is a communicable disease transmitted from a type of mosquitoes, named aedes mosquito. If not treated on time, the chances of survival of the infected person are minimal, according to health professionals.

Manohari Kafle (43), a permanent resident of Shyamgha VDC -8 of Tanahun, had contracted the disease and he is being closely monitored by the District Health Office.

Last year, seven cases of dengue fever  were reported in the district.

According to Aishwarya Chandra Bhattarai, District Public Health Inspector, the patient’s situation is closely observed.

Last month, Kafle had gone to Kathmandu for a treatment, with symptoms of high fever, headache and  skin rashes.

Initially, he was taken to a private hospital, but was referred to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital later. At the TUTH, he was diagnosed with dengue fever.

Durga Datta Chapagain, Acting Chief of District Health Office, informed on Friday that a team was deployed in the area from the DHO to monitor his situation.

They reported that Kafle was recuperating and continuing with his job.

Meanwhile, a circular has been issued to in-charges of the heath posts in remote village of Baidi and Kota to stay aware and alert against the disease.

Health workers suggest maintaining well drainage system, cleaning water resources every week and controlling the mosquito population to prevent spread of the disease.
