URLABARI: Five policemen were injured in a clash between police and locals at Dadarbairiya of Morang on Saturday. The clash erupted as the police tried to rescue a woman who was being thrashed by the locals on charge of kidnapping a child.

The injured have been identified as police sub-inspector Kailash Adhikari and policemen Ram Shraya Saha, Ram Khawas, Shekhar Yadav and Sridev Yadav. They are undergoing treatment in Biratnagar.

A police team had reached the village from Rangeli Police Post after receiving information about the incident.The accused woman is currently under police custody. The identity of the woman is yet to be established but she is believed to be mentally retarded.Nowadays, rumours of a child-kidnapping gang being active in Tarai area has been doing the rounds. But the local administration has been appealing to locals not to believe in such false rumours.
