BARA: Five persons including a child lost their lives while homemade liquor was being prepared illegally in Bara district.

According to police, the incident which took place in Batara of Pheta Rural Municipality-4 in Bara district resulted in the death of Joga Mukhiya Bin (40), his wife Lalmuni Devi (38), their daughter Sumani Kumari (10), Jog Mukhiya's brother Mahendra Mukhiya Bin (around 35 years), and a worker of Indian origin.

It has been reported that they had been secretly producing illegal liquor. As per preliminary investigation, they might have died due to suffocation in a 5-feet deep tank stored with water that was used for the production of liquor.

Suspecting that they might have lost their lives while trying to save each other, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bikash Raj Khanal said that their body had no physical injuries. SP Khanal further informed that the bodies have been kept at Kailali Hospital for further investigation.

Even though the police had earlier put an end to illegal production of liquor in the house, the family had secretly continued the business.
