KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 9

Five people, including four schoolchildren, were killed and 14 others injured after a school bus plunged around 200 metres off the road at Majhthana in Pokhara Metropolitan City-28 on Friday morning.

The bus, bearing registration number Ga 2 Kha 1417 and operated by Kalika English School, was carrying students when the accident occurred.

According to Kaski District Police Office Chief Superintendent of Police Nabin Karki, the deceased include three girls, one boy and a local resident.

Police said the identities of the victims have yet to be established.

The injured were taken to Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences for treatment.

An earlier police report had stated that 18 children were injured in the crash. However, the latest update confirmed five deaths and 14 injured passengers.

Authorities said a total of 22 people were on board the bus at the time of the accident.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
