KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 28
A rain-triggered flood has swept away 30 houses in Sisneri Bazaar, Indrasarowar Rural Municipality-3, Makawanpur district.
According to Assistant Police Inspector Bhojraj Neupane, in charge of the Sisneri police post, the flood also destroyed the police station building. Additionally, 28 houses in Khanikhet, Indrasarowar Rural Municipality-3, have been inundated.
Two sluice gates of the Kulekhani reservoir were opened this morning after rising water levels due to continuous rainfall. Water levels in various streams have reached warning levels, heightening the risk of floods and further inundation.
While no human casualties have been reported, those in high-risk areas have been relocated to safer locations, Neupane informed.
Landslides triggered by incessant rain have blocked several key roads, including the Hetauda-Kathmandu Road, Kulekhani-Phakhel-Kathmandu Road, Tribhuvan Highway, and Kulekhani-Mata Tirtha-Kathmandu Road.
Efforts are ongoing to clear the debris and restore traffic, said Tirtharaj Chiluwal, Chief District Officer of Makawanpur. Chiluwal also noted that security forces are on high alert due to the heightened risk of monsoon-induced disasters such as landslides, floods, and inundation.
