Flood victims of Jhapa Rural Municipality, wards 1 and 2, staged a protest today demanding immediate relief.

Hundreds of flood victims from the two wards reached their respective ward offices and conveyed their concerns to the ward chairpersons, saying they were unfairly left out while providing relief despite the fact that they had been hit hard due to the flood.

"Only Nepali Congress supporters were obliged with the relief; others who actually bore the brunt of the disaster haven't received anything," said a victim, demanding the relief they were entitled as a flood victim.

Regarding the recently distributed relief, District Red Cross chapter president Lokraj Dhakal said the people on the banks of Mai River were provided relief under Advance Disaster Programme of World Food Programme.

Further, he informed that people of four local levels residing on the banks of the Mai River received the relief.

"Some 1,665 households in Gaurigunj Rural Municipality, Shivasatakshi Municipality, Kankai Municipality and Jhapa Rural Municipality received the relief of Rs 13,500 each," he said.

Regarding the relief distributed, the agitated people have demanded that the name list of the households that received the relief from Red Cross be made public .
