Forest user groups meeting concludes

Dhangadhi, January 23

A two-day discussion among the community forest user groups of the mid- and far-west regions concluded in Dhangadhi recently.

The discussion was held to take a decision on the possible structure of the umbrella organisation of community forest user groups in the federal setup. Central officials of the Federation of Community Users Nepal said the meeting dwelt on policy-related changes required in the federal setup. “The discussion was helpful as we collected suggestions on how we should operate in the changed context,” said federation treasurer Manju Malasi.

“In fact, we need to effect changes in policy as we have come to realise that we cannot conserve our forests in the traditional way,” Malasi added.
