SARLAHI, OCTOBER 1

Four people, including three children, were killed after being buried by a mudslide while digging soil on the banks of the Hardi River in Haripurwa Municipality of Sarlahi district on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at 9:20 am in Ward No. 1 of Haripurwa Municipality when a section of soil collapsed during digging with a sickle. The victims, all from Magarthana village of Sonama Rural Municipality–6 in Mahottari, were rescued in critical condition but declared dead upon arrival at the Provincial Hospital, Malangawa.

The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Sayada Khatun, wife of Bedhu Mansur; six-year-old Sabiva Khatun, daughter of Uday Mansur; eight-year-old Dillu Mansur, son of Allauddin Mansur; and nine-year-old Nargis Khatun, daughter of Nasrul Sheikh, according to Deputy Spokesperson Balister Singh. Doctors pronounced them dead at 10:45 am.

Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar Khadka of Sarlahi Police said a team led by Inspector Balister Singh was immediately deployed for investigation.

The bodies have been kept at the Provincial Hospital, Malangawa.
