SARLAHI, MARCH 27

Four persons died while 32 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling on plunged into a river along the East-West Highway in Sarlahi on Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred when the Bus (Na 4 Kha 8555), en route to Janakpur from Birgunj, skidded off the Fuljor Bridge and plunged into the river below, at around 11:15 am.

After preliminary investigation, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Budhathoki, Spokesperson at the District Police Office Sarlahi, stated that the bus had lost control while crossing the bridge.

All four bodies of the deceased have been kept at the Malangawa Hospital for postmortem, DSP Budhathoki added.

Among the injured, five critically injured persons have been referred to health facilities in Birgunj and Janakpur after primary treatment, he informed.

Locals, police personnel with the help of the passengers of the other vehicles conducted a rescue operation and sent the injured to health care centres in Lalbandi, Bayalbas, Malangawa, and Hariban for treatment.

Further investigation into the case is underway, DSP Budhathoki added.
