Four policemen hurt as pickets attack demanding release of arrestees in Parsa

PARSA: At least four security personnel were injured after they came under attack of people at Sedhawa-based police post in Parsa district, in the wee hours today.

An unruly mob had picketed the local police post, seeking the release of six persons including four Indian nationals arrested on the charge of theft and mistreating the police.

The injured are Assistant Sub Inspectors of Police — Gopal Khadka, Sukeshwar Mahato and Shambhu Yadav — and Constable Jay Prakash Yadav, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Limbu at Parsa District Police Office.

All four injured have been undergoing treatment at the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub Regional Hospital. Two of them are said to be in critical condition while the condition of others is yet to be known.

The mob of local residents attacked police personnel with stones and wooden logs, and also torched two motorcycles and a police vehicle at the police post, at around 3:00 am today, DSP Limbu said.

The residents of Sedhawa visited the police post to pile pressure on the police administration to free all the six accused, police informed.

Four Indians, who were nabbed last night riding on a single motorcycle en route to India, allegedly manhandled the security personnel of Mahadevpatti-based Police Beat, during interrogations, forcing the police to take them under control.

Likewise, two others who are in police detention at the police post, were arrested from Suwarnapur on the charge of theft.
