DHANGADHI, AUGUST 6

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Government has approved four provincial hospitals to serve as teaching hospitals for the Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences (MDCUHS), clearing a major hurdle for the launch of medical education programmes in the province.

A meeting of the Provincial Council of Ministers on Thursday endorsed the use of Seti Provincial Hospital, Lamkichuha Provincial Hospital and Tikapur Provincial Hospital in Kailali, along with Mahakali Provincial Hospital in Kanchanpur, as affiliated teaching hospitals for the university.

The Cabinet also decided to initiate the necessary legal and administrative procedures and sign agreements with the concerned agencies to operationalise the arrangement.

With the approval, the provincial government has formally begun expanding the university's academic infrastructure, laying the foundation for medical education to be delivered within Sudurpaschim.

The move is backed by Section 20 of the Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences Act, 2082, which allows the university to conduct academic programmes or use hospitals as teaching hospitals through agreements with the federal, provincial or local governments.

Officials said the hospitals are expected to support the university's educational programmes beginning this year after the required agreements and administrative processes are completed.
