Four-year-old child killed in Baitadi leopard attack

DHADELDHURA: A four-year-old kid was dragged into a forest by a leopard before the wild cat mauled her to death, in Baitadi on Saturday.

Ujjyali Chand of Udaypur VDC-2 was attacked by the leopard while she was playing in her yard along with her other siblings and mother, at around 7:30 pm.

Her body was found at around 9 am today when the police personnel along with the villagers had searched her in the forest.

Her head and torso were detached when the mortal remains was found.

A similar incident had occurred around two weeks ago, when a kid aged seven was killed by a leopard.

Meanwhile, the Baitadi District Security Coordination Committee held a meeting today and decided to deploy 15 armed police personnel to the incident site with an assignment to catch and kill the wild cat.

Chief of the District Police Office, Bal Narsingh Rana said that additional police personnel would also be deployed for the task if needed. He further added that sharp shooters should be called if necessary.

As many as 22 people are reported to have been killed by leopards in the past five years in the lower Sorad area of Baitadi.
