Fourteen-year-old girl raped in Saptari

A 14-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour at Pato of Dakneswori Municiplaity-2, Saptari, yesterday night.

According to police, the girl was raped at her house when she was alone. A 17-year-old boy had wooed the girl to get into her room and raped her. The culprit was arrested by police this morning, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhabesh Rimal.

Police have kept the name of the youth involved in rape secret. “The boy has been kept in the custody and an investigation has been launched into the incident,” DSP Rimal said. The girl’s health check-up was conducted at Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital this morning.

Earlier, an-18-year-old boy had raped a girl of 14 at Ward No 5 of the same municipality on October 7. A man of 40 had raped an elderly woman of 70 at Khadak Municiplaity-8 on the night of October 7. Saptari has registered as many as 11 incidents of rape and five attempted rape in the past three months of the current fiscal.

SP Rajendra Bista said most of the rape cases were settled at the local levels in the past. “But, now, victims have started reporting to police, SP Bista said.
