KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 10
Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has said that the forthcoming election presents a crucial opportunity to further strengthen democracy, federalism, and the republican system in Nepal.
He stressed that free and fair elections are imperative, adding that the government remains fully committed to ensuring their integrity.
Addressing a knowledge conference organized by the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities on Tuesday, Minister Khanal emphasized that the election must be conducted successfully to guarantee equal rights, dignity, and representation for all ethnic and linguistic communities.
He noted that elections are fundamental to an inclusive federal system, as they reinforce respect for diversity and promote broader participation. According to him, when all ethnicities and communities perceive the election as a free and fair democratic exercise, it enhances their sense of dignity and belonging.
"Diversity in terms of ethnicity, language, and culture is Nepal's greatest asset," he underlined, assuring that the conclusions and recommendations of the conference would assist the government in making informed policy decisions.
Khanal further stated that the devolution of power to sub-national governments is essential for the effective functioning of a federal system.
