Free mobile legal advice service launched

Khotang, November 2

Social Legal Help Centre Khotang has started providing free mobile legal advice in Patheka and Bamrang VDCs of the district.

The centre launched the service with an aim of extending access to justice for those who have been deprived and unaware of it in the VDCs. The services are mainly target the marginalised, downtrodden, poor and persons living a risky life in the VDCs. The service is made available two days a week, on Saturday and Sunday.

Chandra Bahadur Khadka, District Legal Help Committee Coordinator, said the committee has been encouraging the general public to seek social legal help through their mobile service. “As many people in the rural areas do not have access to justice and are unaware about the services provided by the centre, we introduced the mobile service,” said Khadka.

“Awareness raising programmes among school and college students will also be launched,” he said. The centre had held an awareness raising programme about polygamy, property ownership case, divorce, public offense case and domestic violence, among others, on August 1.

As many as 11 incapable victims were benefited from the programme.
