Freed kamaiyas seek rehabilitation guarantee
Dhangadi, June 9
With polling date approaching closer, freed kamaiyas from Kailali have said they would vote for candidates who ensured their rehabilitation.
Stating that they had been waiting for rehabilitation for 15 years since they were freed, kamaiyas said candidate/s committed to their rehabilitation would earn their votes. Freed kamaiyas complained that past governments and parties had failed to fulfil their promises to rehabilitate them though they were freed on July 17, 2000.
They stressed the need to raise the issue of freed kamaiyas’ rehabilitation. They also demanded that they be provided with electricity, drinking water and jobs.
“After we were freed, we have been demanding our rehabilitation. We have been waiting for such a long time for rehabilitation,” freed kamaiya Maya Chaudhary said.
