Gaighat 4-lane road construction left in lurch
GAIGHAT: Due to sheer negligence of the contractor, construction of a four-lane road from Gaighat Bazaar to Triyuga river has hit a snag of late.
After failing to complete the project on time, Road Project Office has already extended the contractor's deadline twice but to no avail.
Although the sewage system has been installed on both sides of the 940-metre road, gravelling and blacktopping works are yet to be carried out by the contractor.
Gaighat-Diktel Road Project Chief, Pashupati Gyawali said, "We have directed the contractor to complete the project at any cost by the end of this fiscal year."
"The project was delayed after the parent company sold the project to other construction firms after receiving money from the Road Division Office," locals claimed.
Despite extending its deadline twice, the project is yet to be completed, Jung Bahadur Khadka, Principal of Bal Mandir Higher Secondary School, said.
With the delay in completion of the project, health of locals and commuters has been adversely affected by the dust, Khadka lamented.
Earlier, Surya Construction Pvt Ltd had signed an agreement to complete the project by mid-November 2018.
