Gajurel warns against delay in CA polls
New Delhi, February 3 :
Chief of the CPN-Maoist’s foreign department, CP Gajurel, today warned of a nationwide revolt if the peace process, including the constituent assembly (CA) polls, were disrupted.
“The ongoing violence in the Terai points to the symptoms of such disruption; if games are played to disrupt the CA polls, the Maoists will stage revolt in the cities and also in the countryside,” Gajurel said while talking to this daily here before leaving for Nepal this evening.
He expressed the hope that the Maoists would win the majority of seats in the CA polls. “The number of people willing to join Maoists has increased after the ceasefire, and the number of People’s Liberation Army personnel has also increased,” Gajurel said.
Stating that Prime Minister Girija Prasad is committed to hold the CA polls, Gajurel said, “We will not get a victory in the CA polls by capturing booths, but we must not let others also capture the booths.” Blaming the government for the Terai unrest, Gajurel said, “If the demands of the Terai had been addressed timely, there would not have been so much loss of lives and property.”
Talking to journalists at the Delhi Press Club yesterday, Gajurel said, “People of Indian origin living in Terai in Nepal should not fear anything. The unrest is a conspiracy of the US and the palace,” he said, adding, “The US wants the formation of a puppet government in Nepal that could fulfil its interests. That is possible only if there is monarchy. The US is engineering violence in Nepal.”
Gajurel also claimed that bilateral relations between Nepal and India would reach a new height if the Nepal-India treaty is forged in a new manner.
