POKHARA, NOVEMBER 15

Gandaki Province Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel sacked Minister of Physical Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Transport Management Kumar Khadka from his post today.

A source close to Pokhrel said Khadka was sacked for not cooperating with the Nepali Congress' official candidate in the provincial assembly polls from Kaski.

Khadka wanted to contest PA polls from Kaski Constituency-2 (kha), but the NC fielded Bindu Kumar Thapa from there. The competition to get the ticket had strained relations between Thapa and Khadka. Khadka was inducted into the Nepali Congress from the Akhanda Party five years ago.

Khadka, however, claimed that he could not join the election campaign due to the election code of conduct.

Earlier, Pokhrel had sacked Minister of Energy Harisharan Acharya for soliciting votes to defeat CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Gorkha Constituency-2 and other candidates of the ruling coalition in the district.

After relieving Khadka of his responsibility, Pokhrel has kept Khadka's portfolio with him. The chief minister has also conveyed the Office of Province Governor about the sacking.

Khadka was elected to Gandaki Provincial Assembly under the proportional representation system.
