Gandaki Province govt runs free health camp for senior citizens
Elderly citizens with eye, ear and heart ailments have benefited from the provincial government’s health initiative
Damauli, May 25
Gandaki Province’s Ministry of Social Development has started a health checkup campaign targeting elderly citizens in the province.
The ministry has allocated Rs 66 lakh for health camps being organised in all 11 districts of the province.
According to Vicechair Kesabraj Lamsal of Federation of Elderly Citizens in the province, the health camp will provide health services to senior citizen above 70 years.
As part of the campaign, at least 200 elderly citizens with eye, ear and heart diseases were examined in Damauli, Tanahun, today.
Health camps have also been held in Kaski, Gorkha, Nawalpur and Lamjung districts.
According to Elderly Citizens Conciliation Centre, medicines worth rupees eight lakh were distributed free of cost to patients visiting the camp.
Dr Sanjaya Maharjan and Dr Asim Bataju from Manipal Teaching Hospital, Dr Sunil Pandey of Damauli Hospital and Dr Sashikala Ghimire of Himalayan Eye Hospital, Pokhara, among dozens of health workers provided health services to senior citizens in the camp.
Former chairman of Elderly Citizens Conciliation Centre Debnidhi Pantha said senior citizens with heart and eye diseases visited the camp to benefit from the health services.
A service seeker, Harishankar Wagle, 87, of Byas Municipality said he was relieved after receiving treatment for his eyes at the camp.
Likewise, Kanta Bahadur Ranabhat, 85, of Rising Rural Municipality said he received treatment for his heart and eyes at the camp.
