General strike hits life in Banke

Nepalgunj, November 15

Life in Banke was adversely affected today due to a district bandh enforced by Nepal Tarun Dal, youth wing of Nepali Congress party.

Vehicular movement came to grinding halt due to the day-long general strike enforced from 7:00 am in the morning till 4:00pm.

According to police, except some minor incidents of vandalism in Nepalgunj, no untoward incidents happened during the bandh.

Nepal Tarun Dal had called the strike seeking release of its Nepalgunj President Sandipjung Shah, who is said to have been arrested in possession of illegal weapon.

Though police have maintained that Shah, along with his friends, were arrested after a pistol was found from his vehicle, Nepal Tarun Dal, however, has accused the police of framing its leader by planting the pistol in his car.

A police team led by Kohalpur Deputy Superintendent of Police Hem Bahadur Shahi had arrested Shah and his friends Raghav Shah, Madhav Nepali, Jaya Bahadur Budha and Pritam Thapa Magar from the Ganapur-based Namaste Resort of Banke’s Janaki Rural Municipality-6, on October 31.
