‘Genuine demands of Madhes will be addressed’

Pokhara, June 29

CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel today said that his party was ready to address the genuine demands of Madhesi parties if they were in favor of Madhesi people.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Chautari Kaski Chapter in Pokhara today, Pokhrel said UML was ready to amend the constitution if the amendment proposal was in favor of the Madhesi people. “But the issues tabled by the government in Parliament were meaningless,” he said. Pokhrel said the constitution was a legal document to balance power and it could be changed, not only amended. Pokhrel added that the parties have to move ahead to accomplish the three levels of elections by January 21, 2018. “The country will face constitutional crisis if elections are not held within the deadline,” he added. He said Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal had not obstructed civic polls in Province 2. “But the ruling forces had postponed the elections in Province 2,” he charged. Pokhrel claimed that his party would receive more votes in the second round of civic polls.
