German Minister Hendricks on four-day official visit to Nepal

KATHMANDU: Dr Barbara Hendricks, German Federal Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety is in the Capital for a four-day official visit.

She landed here on Sunday night.

The German Minister is visiting the country to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral friendship and cooperation between Nepal and Germany.

She would collect the first-hand information on the progress made in the environment and forest-related development projects supported by the government of Germany in Nepal, the German Embassy here said today.

Minister Hendricks will hold bilateral dialogues with Nepal’s Minister for Population and Environment Jayadev Joshi and Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Shankar Bhandari.

She would travel to Lalitpur district in order to observe management and operation of the Godavari Knowledge Park, a biodiversity conservation project of International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

Moreover, Minister Hendricks would visit Kalchhebesi Resilient Mountain Village in Patlekhet of Kavre district.

The Kalchhebesi project highlights how Nepali communities could tackle the challenges of climate change, developing skills of local people for adaptation on the one hand, while on the other, putting additional efforts into forest restoration, forest management and nature conservation, the statement added.
