Girl raped, police blamed for letting of perpetrator
Rautahat, February 15
A girl was raped while she had gone out of home to relieve herself, in Rautahat. Meanwhile, her family has accused the police of helping the perpetrator to escape.
A thirteen-year-old girl of Gamhariya Parsa in Gadhimai Municipality-3, had gone out of home with her younger sister at about 8:00pm on Tuesday night when she was attacked by Shekh Ibran, 20, of Basabiti Jigadiya in Garuda Municipality. Though Ibran is said to have been arrested red-handed, the victim’s family has accused police of releasing the perpetrator in the name of treatment.
Ibran, who was a tractor driver, had pulled over his vehicle on the road and entered the sugarcane field upon seeing two girls there. The villagers had later detained him after the younger girl who had fled the site informed them about the attack on her sister by a stranger. Later, police had arrested Ibran and taken him to the police station from where he was said to have been set free.
“The girl’s uncle went to the office to file a complaint but to no avail. While he was simply spurned by the police, the perpetrator’s side too issued a threat to life,” said local Shekh Gyasuddhin of Gamhariya. A complaint was registered yesterday at the area police office of Garuda following the initiatives of Mayor Shyam Yadav of Gadimai Municipality. Following the the complaint, police have taken the girl to the district hospital in Gaur for medical test. SP Yagya Binod Pokharel said he was investigating the crime thoroughly.
